I like to list my favorite volcanoes in the Canary Islands for you!

Thinking about my vacations in the Canary Islands, I immediately envision numerous beautiful volcanic landscapes. Tenerife, Lanzarote, La Palma... All the islands have their own characters and also their own beautiful volcanoes. My favorite volcanoes in the Canary Islands I like to list for you!

El Teide volcano on Tenerife

I remember it like yesterday, when I decided to climb the volcano El Teide on Tenerife by bike. The owner of my lodging in Tenerife told me with all her enthusiasm how she once did it herself and that made me curious. I wanted to do that too! That particular morning I got on my bike. I was told it would be a tough trip, but the result is worth it all: the view gets more and more beautiful along the way and after a while I even ride above the clouds! At 3718 meters, the El Teide is the highest volcano in Europe, which made me even more proud to be standing there on the summit. As if I had landed on the top of the world!

Volcano El Cuervo on Lanzarote

In Lanzarote, I met Kalevi and Daniza, who passionately run a guesthouse on the island. With interest, I listened to their stories when they told me about the El Cuervo volcano on their island of Lanzarote. "The special thing about this volcano is that you can hike to the inside of it," Daniza tells me enthusiastically. "And according to many, that has a good effect on our bodies: it is said to purify your mind." I hang on her every word. The next day we decide to tackle the ascent together. While walking, we can still clearly see the lava flows of the volcano. Full of wonder, I take in the impressive landscapes around me. The El Cuervo volcano is an absolute must see during your vacation in Lanzarote!

Volcano Teneguia on La Palma

Ever since I discovered the island of La Palma, I have been in love. This island is again totally different from the other Canary Islands. Smaller, but certainly no less rugged. The same love for this island is also felt by the Dutch Karel and Marja, who started their guesthouse Finca Paraiso here. When we get talking on a sunny afternoon with a glass of wine in our hands, we soon start talking about the Teneguia volcano. A beautiful natural phenomenon according to the couple. "Did you know that the volcano was still erupting in the 1970s?" I listen intently. "And now you can climb it," they sound enthusiastic. "But watch out for the strong wind and put on something warm." A few days later, I take up the challenge: climbing the Teneguia volcano. It turns out to be a wonderful hike, which is almost inevitable with such a beautiful piece of nature!

Tejeda Caldera on Gran Canaria

During one of my vacations, I heard from a local about the special landscape surrounding the mountain village of Tejeda. "The village itself with its white houses is already beautiful," Juan believes while sipping his wine in a little bar, "but the surroundings are dazzling." His stories piqued my curiosity. I had to see that! There on the spot, I see for myself what the largest volcanic crater in the Canary Islands, the Tejeda Caldera, looks like. The crater is no less than 28 by 18 kilometers. An impressive sight that you can easily see from the village of Tejeda.
